Improved Family Engagement

Railsback, Jennifer. (2004). Increasing Student Attendance: Strategies from Research and Practice. Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory
This literature review conducted by the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory looks specifically at practices to increase student attendance that are well-supported in the literature.  Their research found that there is not a body of rigorous evaluation that can say what interventions or strategies are more effective at increasing attendance.  Researchers did find support for necessary factors related to increasing attendance.  Findings are grouped into four general categories, 1) sound and reasonable attendance polices and consequences, 2) early interventions that include families, 3) targeted interventions for students with chronic attendance problems, 4) strategies to increase engagement and personalization.
